The Responsibilities of Leadership

24.03.2020

I would like to start by saying that a leader should always respect his fellow workers and know how to communicate with other people. Furthermore, a leader should know how to solve knotty problems regardless of the situation. They undoubtedly shouldn't be headstrong in situations of crisis. Leaders must know how to make the best upshot from any situation that they may find themselves into.

For instance, we may find the president of the United States of America who regardless of asking for help from China, he continues to publicly express his opinion on coronavirus as being a 'Chinese Virus'. Moreover, even though a plethora of people tell him that it is a racist expression, he unfortunately continues using it on a daily basis.

Furthermore, leaders should acquiesce with other officials. This way everyone will get a clear view of opinions on different subjects.

As said in the article by The New York Times, the problems we face with the novel virus are not only political but are also economical. For instance, it is blatant that in the last two weeks one country after another had started closing its borders in order to stop the spread of the coronavirus. Therefore, most air travel has been stopped and products can't be transported. Moreover, most companies have stopped their production for April because their demand is close to zero. This goes for most car manufacturers and factories. Some car manufacturers have started producing medical related products, for instance Ford, General Motors and Tesla had started producing respiratory products, one of them being ventilators. "Are being given the go ahead to make ventilators"-Donald Trump-Twitter

Regardless, I don't think that leaders should be proud in situations of crisis given the fact that there are lives at cost and they shouldn't create problems with other leaders. It is important that people are willing to help each other. This way we show that we can live in a society. We may see this right now, where Chinese are willing to give Americans any medical products that they ask for, masks, gloves and other necessities. Furthermore, we have Jack Ma, a renowned entrepreneur, who offered to donate one million masks and 500,000 tests to the United States.
