Smallpox 2002

''Smallpox 2002:  The Silent Weapon'' is a docu-drama that reports on a attack made by a terrorist using the disease of small pox to attack the world. It all starts in New York, where a person infects himself with that renowned virus and subsequently infects a plethora of people. The movie looks back on a disease that had silently affected the world in the past.

It is my personal opinion that this movie is ahead of its' time and puts a lot of effort in making it as real as possible. For instance, the president of America at that time, George Bush, had asked several times for a copy of this movie.

It is blatant that this movie only presents events that had happened during that pandemic while still explaining about what it engendered and all the upshots it made. Even though a few months prior it might have seemed unrealistic, it now became a horrifying reality for a plethora of people.

One aspect that I like about this movie is the fact that it shows how the panic and fear that people express, augments as the days pass. Moreover, we may see this because the number of cases scales up daily and the video diaries people make present how their behaviour in a society had unfortunately changed. Therefore, even though leaders try to create a serene environment, mayhem doesn't stop to rule.

All of the mayhem stops, when 'draconian' measures are taken by the government. This may also apply to our days, given the fact that people don't go on the streets and stay indoors. Schools are shut down, restaurants and shops are closed and public gatherings are not allowed. The only shops that are being open are grocery shops.

This movie also presents other problems that play a big role. For instance, we may find the problem with the shortage of vaccines and who gets them first. The fear people will have after the pandemic ends.

Moreover, I appreciate the amount of effort that has been up into the production of this movie. For instance, the reaction of the estate residents when one family gets the disease is realistic. Furthermore, the moment when an infected person is taken out of his house, all play a big role in making this movie seem more realistic and special.

Given the above mentions, we might say that there aren't a lot of discrepancies between this movie and the pandemic we are going through. They all have a emulated upshot, fear.
