Living Through A Pandemic

01.04.2020

In comparison to other countries, people say that in Spain is the worst type of quarantine. For instance, under aged people aren't allowed to go outside, moreover adults are not allowed to go outside regardless for going grocery shopping.

This podcast with the host Amy Mackinnon is joined by Anne Speckhard, an adjunct associate professor of psychiatry at the Georgetown University School of Medicine. They address the general problem of trauma during this novel virus which seems to rule the world.

Unfortunately, this virus is blatantly going to make a change in our paradigm. For instance, we may see that this had happened before, during the outbreak at Chernobyl. All the liquidators have been told that they are radiated and that their children would be born with a lot of problems and that they are going to radiate their partners. This unfortunately had transformed into a trauma from which they didn't want to have children thinking that they are radiated, even though they weren't sick. This wouldn't have happened if they were not told that they might be radiated and, therefore, letting them see if they get sick or not for themselves.

We might also see PTHD, where people continue remembering and living memories which had a bad influence to them. They need to be treated because otherwise, it is going to haunt us even after the pandemic.

Furthermore, we must get out of this pandemic with a lesson. The lesson is that the health system, in each country, must be more prepared in order to alleviate pandemics. We must be prepared, regardless of the situation. This had been done before by people who went through the Holocaust.
