Contagion

I would like to start by saying that I had already seen this movie twice before this assignment. I had watched it  a week prior the 23rd March with my mother. We firstly had watched it for the joy of watching a movie together, and the second time we had watched it in order to understand it better and see how it can overlap with the virus we are going through.

At first sight, it is blatant that the renowned movie from 2011, 'Contagion', is verisimilitue to today's situation in some specific ways.

For instance, the fact that the majority of people have become more cautious about protecting themselves from catching the ubiquitous virus that had slowly conquered our world in the last two months is similar both in reality and in the movie. Furthermore, we can see that the panic is similar in both scenarios and that is engenders noxious behaviours to people. Although in both cases people are stressed, in the movie we may see people with an enhanced fear. This may be seen in their actions. They destroy cities, shops, pharmacies and robberies are on a daily basis. Therefore, we may see that the army and the government don't have a huge power over the population. Moreover, the virus from the movie has a higher mortality rate which may root the fear people have.

Regardless, of mentions given above, the majority of the movie seems plausible. A virus that attacks your immune system, the government who has a role of slowing the process of finding a cure, resignation and people who don't know what to do are only a few from the plethora of aspects which are similar to today's pandemic. These are all thanks to the director and author of the movie who had spent time with virologists in order to make a great movie that might bring a lot of attention to a potential future for the human kind.

Even though it might have seemed abstruse a few months ago, if you watch the movie now it is impossible that you can't understand it and can't find yourself in the movie. Furthermore, one aspect that is stunning about this movie is the fact that the plot is divided in a lot of pieces, similarly to 'Sliding Doors'. You have the normal person who fights for his family and tries to survive, people of justice, virologists and reporters who try to find the truth. While you are watching the movie you are going to fell joy, sadness and sorrow.
